We are always on the lookout for fresh faces to be our New Meetup Event Hosts: <3 Friends to Besties <3

If you have an idea for an event, comment below or send us a private message, and we’ll get things going! We love to serve our community with great heart + soul.

Events can range from professional (networking, career seminars, etc), educational (finance, real estate, Book Club etc), fitness (hikes, jogs, Walk & Talks etc), or just social (drinks, brunches, markets, galleries, etc).

Over the years, we have held all kinds of events – including Hip Hop Dance Workshops – but we are also always open to new ideas.

It’s really quite easy to schedule events, and they almost run themselves once a date and venue are set. That’s pretty much the most important step.

There are many reasons to choose to be an Event Host and we highly recommend it to people who would like to step outside their comfort zone and take on a leadership role.

It’s also a great way to meet new people and can be truly rewarding too.

As it says in Proverbs 27:9 “A sweet friendship refreshes the soul”.

You may meet your next “Friend to Bestie” and create memories that will last you a lifetime.

Here are some key attributes which make an outstanding Event Host:

  1. Personable

You will be mixing and mingling on the day, remembering as many names as possible. You will need to be someone who isn’t shying away and making an effort to keep the conversation upbeat, steering away from awkward moments or taboo subjects.

2. Organised

Think through everything that could go wrong as well as everything that could make the event run as smoothly as possible. Offering a balanced perspective.

Being punctual and ensuring all bases are covered when publishing the event, paying attention to the finer details like meeting location and how to identify you and the group.

3. Resourceful

It doesn’t matter how much preparation you’ve put into an event, if something can go wrong, at one point or another, it likely will. In such a scenario, your resourcefulness will either serve or fail you.

Knowing where the toilets are and when to have a toilet break would be a great idea if your event going for a few hours. Also keeping tabs on food preferences is very important and needs thinking through at any event that involves food.

4. Passionate

Bringing your zeal for fun and a positive attitude goes a long way. Doing all you can to break the ice and ensure everyone has a good time.

5. Problem-solving skills

Anything can happen and it’s up to you to think of a solution on the go.

6. Calm under pressure

You’ll need to be ready to make executive decisions on the fly and remain cool, calm and collected as you do so. Maybe secretly you are panicking but outwardly you have got it all together.

7. Listening skills

If you can gather feedback from your attendees. You’d be amazed how much you can learn just from listening to your guests. They will suggest new ideas that you may have missed and key strategies you can incorporate into your future events.

8. Experience

Nothing beats experience. Being reflective after each event allows for a steep learning curve. If you think through all that could have been better, all that was great and a list of means for improvement, you will be on your “A Game” pretty quickly.

***

If you have decided then and there you are Event Host material we would love to give you a High 5!

We have some questions we would like you to answer and we will set up an interview to ensure we are on the same page and that we can work well together in the long run…

Can you kindly tell us a little about yourself:

  1. What type of experience or collaboration would you be keen to bring to the table? (Getaways/Musicals/know people that run a cafe/potential Guest Speaker, Sponsorship etc. etc.)
  • What types of Events would you like to host?
  • What is your availability like (which days are best for you – weekends, weeknights?)
  • Whats the best way to keep in touch? *We like SMS mostly – it’s quick & convenient*

ALSO, do join us on our Facebook Group if you like. It’s called “Friends to Besties Collective” … where we keep the conversation going throughout the week.
